The South Branch of the Au Sable River wanders for 15 miles through the heart of the George Mason Wilderness Retreat, a northern Michigan wilderness more commonly known as "The Mason Tract". A scenic home for eagles, deer, beaver, mink, and other native animals. Floating the river is the best way to explore the 4500 acre Mason Tract. Rent a canoe or kayak from Watters Edge Canoe Livery for this popular 4 hour river trip or one of our other day trips. Popular overnight trips and tubing are also available.
