North and South Manitou Islands are wonderful destinations for seek kayakers seeking exploration and solitude. The two rugged wilderness islands are part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The remote location and size of these rugged islands make them ideal for multi-day or week-long kayaking excursions. South Manitou is more frequently visited of the two islands, but both hold the promise of peaceful paddling experience. Photograph courtesy of Penrose Outdoor Photography.
Access to the island is by ferry from Leland.
